Ellwood City is home to a community full of active and talented residents. Whether it’s arts, crafts, food, music, or other types of entertainment, residents enjoy the opportunity to create and enjoy the culture that surrounds them. Each year, these talents and interests are displayed and fulfilled during many beloved events.

Ellwood City hosts an annual festival that showcases arts, crafts, food, music and entertainment. Other annual events include: Holy Redeemer Parish Bazaar, Memorial Day Parade, Christmas in the Park, Relay for Life, and Oktoberfest. The borough also celebrates Earth Day in April and holds a Storytelling Festival at Ewing Park in September, one of several scenic parks in the area.

A Farmer’s Market and Outdoor Concert series at the beautiful Community Plaza Park take place seasonally and helps showcase our local culture.

The borough’s natural country setting and rolling hills has been a draw for many golf courses and country clubs that showcase the beautiful landscape and panoramic views. In addition to the many waterways, lakes, and grounds for camping and kayaking, Ellwood City is centrally located to many other recreational facilities easily accessible to our residents.

 Brush Creek Park

Located off State Route 588 in North Sewickley Township, Brush Creek Park offers over three miles of walking/jogging trails, playgrounds, soccer and softball fields, tennis courts, ten picnic shelters with tables, charcoal grills and restrooms facilities, a large grassy play meadow, and a lake for fishing. Just under ten miles from the borough, Brush Creek Park is a nature lovers dream.

 McConnell Mills State Park

McConnells Mill State Park, in Lawrence County, encompasses 2,546 acres of the spectacular Slippery Rock Creek Gorge. Created by the draining of glacial lakes thousands of years ago, the gorge has steep sides and the valley floor is littered with huge boulders. A logging mill was built in the 1800’s to harness the power of the water. The park is open from sunrise to sunset, year-round.

 Moraine State Park

The gently rolling hills, lush forests, and sparkling waters disguise a land that has endured the effects of continental glaciers and massive mineral extraction. Each year over one million people visit the 16,725-acre park, yet never realize that it required intensive labor to restore the land from prior coal mining and oil and gas drilling practices. Today, the park is an outstanding example of environmental engineering achievement.

 Mines & Meadows Resort & Camping

Mines & Meadows Resort offers ATV and dirt bike enthusiasts in Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio a truly unique experience with more than 75 miles of trails on 650 acres that cover the full spectrum of riding skills from beginner through advanced. Located off State Route 18 in Wampum, and just over six miles from the borough, Mines & Meadows also offers a complete selection of camping options ranging from primitive camping for a single night to annual RV park leases and memberships for the whole family.

 North Country National Scenic Trail

The North Country National Scenic Trail runs through McConnell’s Mill State Park in southeastern Lawrence County, as well as through the State Game Lands in Wampum borough.  It is just one section of a continuous hiking trail that stretches through seven states.

Pittsburgh International Race Complex

Located in Big Beaver Borough on State Route 18, just outside the borough, Pittsburgh International Race Complex is 400-acre facility full of racing excitement that includes a full-circuit 2.8 mile performance track, 0.83 mile kart track – the fastest in Pennsylvania, and a 12,000 square foot event center.

 Stavich Bike Trail

The Stavich Bike Trail is the only bicycle trail in the US that takes you through two different states. This 12-mile trail originates in New Castle, Pennsylvania on the eastern end, and continues west to Struthers, Ohio. It runs parallel to the scenic Mahoning River and the former Youngstown-New Castle streetcar line.
