Ewing Park

Ewing Park is the second largest park in the Borough of Ellwood City and is home to the facilities that Lincoln High School uses for its high school sporting events. Ewing Park is easily accessible from State Routes 65 and 488. The wonderful, outdoor 20-acre all-season park is a natural paradise for all ages and fitness levels.

A beautiful Nature Trail meanders along the Connoquenessing Creek with covered benches along the way so you can rest, relax in solitude, and enjoy the sounds of rushing waters while reflecting among the inspiring scenery. Ten picnic pavilions populate the park.  For shelter rental rates and reservations, please visit the Borough Utility Window. Reservations can only be made in person.

A focal point and popular destination for many children is the Kids Created Kingdom (KCK), a 35,000 square foot jungle-themed playground, with interactive equipment to entertain youngsters with a range of physical challenges. KCK is such an attraction that groups of children from outside of Ellwood City are often bused in to enjoy its stimulating activities.

Lincoln High School’s Helling Stadium is a fully equipped stadium that becomes the center of community activity every Friday night during football season. It also has three baseball fields of varying sizes for athletes from elementary through varsity and a 400-meter polyurethane track that is open to the public from spring to fall.

Streets within Ewing Park include Madison, Jefferson, Adams, and Washington Avenues, named after United States presidents; and Haig, Pershing, and Foch Streets, named after World War I Allied generals. Another main causeway in Ewing Park is Carmen Beatrice Drive, named after the late Carmen Beatrice who was a significant contributor to many Ellwood City sports and is recognized and remembered by many in the Ellwood City community.

Other attractions include a basketball court, bocce courts, a skate park, a swimming pool, tennis courts, and many other amenities.

Most recently, during the summer of 2016, the Borough of Ellwood City established a Butterfly Garden in its Ewing Park facility.

R.C. Stiefel Park

Stiefel Park, a 69-acre piece of land, is located high on the southern hills within the Borough of Ellwood City.

The area was first called the Brickyard early in the 1900s, as it was home to Clydesdale Quarries, where limestone, sand, coal, and clay were mined, and there were kilns for making brick. The Brickyard operation closed in 1929, a casualty of the Great Depression.

In 1942, Ellwood City purchased the property from North Sewickley Township for use as a park and has maintained Steifel since.

The main causeway into Stiefel Park, Hack Wilson Drive, is named after a famous Ellwoodian and Major League Baseball record holder, Hack Wilson. Wilson played for the Chicago Cubs in the early 20th century and still holds the Major League Record for RBI’s in one season with 191. Following Hack Wilson drive into Stiefel Park will lead you to a number of fields, including the softball field where the Lincoln High School softball teams compete.

In addition to the fields, there is also a ‘Tot Lot’ playground, a shelter, and a lighted dek hockey rink. The rink is available for recreational use and also hosts leagues and other group outings.  Construction of the rink began in 1995. The design of the rink was taken from the old Civic Arena. The dimensions are approx. 200’x84′ which is the professional standard. Leagues are run from June 1st – October 31st.

From Stiefel Park a viewer can look out over the distance into neighboring Franklin Township and Beaver County.

Neighborhood-based Parks

Circle Playground

Located within the Pittsburgh Circle neighborhood, Circle Playground offers swings and other playground equipment in addition to the large grass area, shelter, and concrete basketball court. The Ellwood City Borough offers summer playground programs that utilize Circle Playground.

Merit Book Park

Merit Book Park is located in the North Side area of Ellwood City just off of State Route 288. Merit Book Park has a baseball/softball field as well as a shelter and jungle gym playground area.

Rosannah Park

The Rosannah Park, a 0.60-acre park, located off Rosannah Street in what was previously considered the ‘Little Italy’ neighborhood of Ellwood City early in the 20th Century, offers a large grass area and shelter for use.

City Centre Mini Park

The City Centre Mini Park, located in the business district, is a relaxing area with a well-maintained shrubbery garden and a toddler playground. Its tranquility makes it the perfect outdoor reading spot.
