The Police Department operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year and consists of ten full-time officers and three part-time officers. The Police department is a full service police agency with a Canine handler as part of its patrol units.  The department serves as a regional booking center for Lawrence County Courts, utilizing LIVESCAN Technology for Fingerprinting of criminals arrested by Lawrence County Law Enforcement Agencies.

In addition, ECPD also provides fingerprinting for job applicants that require clearance through Federal or State background checks.  The cost is $25.00. The Ellwood City Police Department is the first department in Lawrence County to have License Plate Readers thanks to our Beaver County partners and local contributors.

Animal Control Officer

Animal control office is responsible for responding to requests for help with animals ranging from wild animals, dangerous animals, animals in distress, and other animal related matters.

Jerry Cartwright, Magisterial District Judge

The district office handles the actions associated with traffic citations, nontraffic citations, and the filing of criminal complains and holds proceedings on civil and landlord/tenant cases seeking up to $12,000.00.
