Electric Department
The Borough of Ellwood City is one of 35 municipalities in Pennsylvania and 2,000 nationwide that own and operate their own electric distribution system. Electric sales allow for a higher level of services from Police, Fire and Public Works departments with less impact to local taxes. The Borough provides electric service to over 4,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers and is responsible for all maintenance and upgrades to the distribution system, including traffic signals and street lighting. The Public Works Department consists of one division that takes care of all Borough maintenance. The department has ten employees with over 100 years of experience in Public Works. The department maintains 36 miles of storm sewers, 1,565 catch basins, 34 miles of sanitary sewer lines, 732 manholes, 64 miles of roads, six playgrounds, and two parks and is responsible for keeping all roads and alleys free of snow and ice. Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Borough of Ellwood City operates and maintains the wastewater treatment plant and several lift stations throughout the borough. There are 30 miles of sanitary sewer in the borough. The facility is located on Wampum Road in Wayne Township and services approximately 3,500 households in the borough. The plant operates under the guidelines of the DEP and EPA.
