Ellwood City Volunteer Fire Department
The Ellwood City Fire Department (Station 2300) is under the Command of Fire Chief Rick Myers and is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with 14 paid firefighters and 25 Volunteers.
The average response time to any emergency in the Borough of Ellwood City is 3-5 minutes with an average of 6-7 firefighters per call. In 2019, the department responded to 538 emergencies and in 2020 the department responded to 553 calls for help. Remember, these are simply normal citizens of Ellwood City, who drop everything in a moments notice, to come to the aid of others in our community.
The Ellwood City Fire Department is a very highly trained and skilled fire department. They are members of the State Fire Commissioners Certified Recognition Program having members certified at Firefighter I and II level. They are a State certified BLS (Basic Life Support) Squad for medical emergencies in the Borough of Ellwood City and are also certified at Expert Level for pediatric Emergencies. Members are trained in all aspects of Rescue, such as Vehicle extrication, heavy machinery, farm machinery, rope and water rescue. Our firefighters work very hard to make sure our community is as safe as it can be.
The department has 2 front line Engines that are equipped with CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System). The foam cools the fire and removes the heat from the burning products. The 100’ Aerial (Ladder) Truck is the largest in the area. In 2013 the Truck was used to assist the PA Game Commission in placing a baby eaglet back into its nest after it had fallen out.
