The Ellwood City Volunteer Fire Department (Station 2300) is under the command of Fire Chief Rick Myers and is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with 14 paid firefighters and 25 volunteers.

The average response time to any home in the Borough of Ellwood City is 3-5 minutes with an average of 6-7 firefighters per call. In 2013, the department responded to 434 calls, in 2014 the department responded to 401 calls.

If a fire occurs in the Borough of Ellwood City, there is a protocol in place that calls for Automatic Mutual Aid. That means that firefighters from Chewton, Franklin Township, North Sewickley Township, Wayne Township, and Wurtemburg- Perry Townships respond to aid in the Fire Attack efforts.

The department has two front line Engines and has one of the only Engines with a CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System) in the area. The foam cools the fire and removes the heat from the products burning. The 100’ Aerial truck is the largest in the area. In 2013 the truck was used to assist the PA Game Commission in placing a baby Eagle back into its nest after it had fallen out.

The Ellwood City Vol. Fire Department responds to more than just fires. As of 2013 the Department started a QRS (Quick Response Service) which means that they respond to all major medical emergencies in the Borough of Ellwood City alongside the ambulance service.

Remember, the majority of those who respond are Volunteers. They are simply normal citizens of Ellwood City who drop everything to come to the aid of other members of our community.

The Fire Department is equipped with state of the art equipment including:

2006 Crimson Engine (2301)
1985 Seagrave Engine (2302)
1996 Sutphen Aerial Tower 100’ (2304)
1995 International Heavy Rescue (2306)
2007 Chevy Suburban Rescue (2308)
